Some stories to watch & things to do:

• HISD SAT scores fell this year, but ACT scores rose a bit, according to a Houston Chronicle² story about college preparation exams. They say it’s “mixed results,” and are right. We need better results than that.
• Houston gasoline price still cheapest in Texas at $3.44 a gallon, says the Houston Business Journal
• Rice University raised more than $100 million in 2008, a historic high, says the Houston Business Journal

Houston is gaining jobs

According to the Houston Business Journal, the “Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area had the second-largest employment increase in the United States in the year to July, adding 57,100 jobs.” It seems we were beat by Dallas. So, overall, Texas is doing well in job gains as well.

Food in Houston
